Cancer Support in the Community
Yellow Door Care joins a wide range of supportive services for anyone involved with the breast cancer journey. You might be surprised at the lovely things that are available, including free programs and holidays.
Yellow Door Care facilitates a community approach
Yellow Door Care recognises the need for a community approach in caring for individuals and families dealing with cancer. While we provide care for people in their own homes, we are also about connecting people with each other, providing transport and help to attend activities and appointments. The care provided is tailored to your needs, with a focus on the best experience of wellness able to be achieved. Initial Care Coordination, Assessment and Setup comes at no charge, and further you will be directed towards establishing your eligibility for government funding assistance.
If you do not have the family support available, Yellow Door Care can fill that need.
This also means that recovery can begin at home with appropriate nursing care, while being sensitive to a need for peace and privacy.
Free holiday accommodation
The Otis Foundation provides retreat accommodation at no cost to those with the challenges of breast cancer. Property is donated specifically for this purpose, providing time out in a peaceful environment where family and friends are equally welcome to share this special place.
‘ OTIS retreats are situated in beautiful bush and coastal locations. Each property is fully furnished with all linen provided. Visit otisfoundation.org.au to view our range of retreats or call (03) 54441184 and speak to our Bookings team….’

Skin-care, make-up and head wear
One of the problems that cancer sufferers do not like is how the disease process and chemotherapy can affect their personal appearance. With this in mind, another group have created ‘Life Feels Better in Colour’…This is a free workshop of skincare, make-up and head wear tips and tricks to give a wonderful boost to confidence during this journey.
‘The Look Good Feel Better workshop reignited my need for self-care, self-love and self-respect. I came out of the program more positive about little things I could do to make myself feel better…’ Helen, 44, cancer patient.

YWCA Encore Program
Long involved in community projects, the YWCA have created the Encore program of 8 weeks exercise, provided free of charge to women who have experienced breast cancer at any time in their life.
It addresses mobility, stretching, aerobic and resistance exercises specifically catering to the needs of people who may not be comfortable attending a normal gym program, or require modifications to exercises. It is somewhat comforting knowing that you don’t have to explain anything, and that you share the camaraderie of a similar experience with the other participants.
They also provide guest speakers and links into other local services.
