Adelaide Palliative Care Blog

Welcome to Adelaide’s first palliative care blog written in Adelaide by nurses in Adelaide. Welcome to the Yellow Door Palliative Care Blog.

We would like to welcome you on this journey with us, and believe us, it will be a journey! You may be reading this blog because you are either a family member or client receiving Yellow Door Care services in Adelaide or private palliative care at home in Adelaide currently. You also may have an interest in private palliative care at home either professionally or personally. And of course, some of you may enjoy learning new things or are keen to improve the quality of life of those you care about.

We would also like to introduce to you a new member of our team, Erica Fotineas. Erica is writer, author and artist with a passion for creativity and private palliative care at home. Erica will be sharing thoughts, ideas and her wisdom developed both professionally and personally throughout her life. She is an amazing Registered Nurse who cares for others beyond all expectations. Erica is that nurse. The one you are so lucky to have. The one who changes the whole experience of your day and who leaves a lasting impression.

Erica will be delivering to you, the reader, all things Palliative Care….medical, nursing, legal, spiritual, psychosocial and complementary therapies. Something for everyone! And don’t worry, if you don’t know anything about private palliative care at home, we will be starting at the very beginning…Julie Andrews will be pleased!

On occasion, Erica will be hosting guest writers to discuss their areas of expertise, staff to give an account of what it is like to care for someone at the end of their lives, and you, the readers, to give us an account of what it is like to have aging parents and the problems you have encountered, to care for a loved one, to lose someone you love (or someone you didn’t love, and the guilt associated with it) and how you have coped with the grief that follows. And most importantly, from those of you who have a life limiting illness and those who are receiving private palliative care at home.

We welcome your feedback, advice and thoughts, so please subscribe on our website at www.yellowdoorcare.com to receive our monthly newsletter or leave a comment to let us know you are there. And of course, you can unsubscribe at any time.

These blogs are never intended to replace the care or advice you are given by a health professional. They are to provide a place where death and dying can be discussed openly. And remember, these conversations become a lot easier to have with other people if you have decided what is truly important to you? What will matter to you in the end? If you you like help with these difficult conversations, click here.

So welcome, and please share with your family and friends and colleagues on LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram so we can get this conversation started.
